Inter Linked to Barcelona Defensive Outcast

Inter are planning to bolster their defence, amid reports of either Milan Skriniar or Stefan De Vrij or both nearing the exit door at Giuseppe Meazza. Keeping that in mind, a new young prospect is being eyed by the Nerazzurri to reinforce Simone Inzaghi’s backline.

According to Catalonian news outlet El Nacional, Barcelona newbie Eric Garcia might just swap Camp Nou for the greener pastures of San Siro. Garcia arrived from Manchester City amid much fanfare but has since struggled to kick off his career in Spain on par with the levels expected of him. The 2001-born defender failed to impress former coach Ronald Koeman and now Xavi Hernandez does not seem keen either to play him regularly.

Ronald Araujo is the mainstay in defence at the moment and club president sees the 23-year-old as the future of the club’s backline. His contract runs out in 2023 and Barcelona are said to be keen on renewing the Uruguayan’s deal. Moreover, Barcelona are expected to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen in the summer.

Garcia, at the moment, has been cast aside in Xavi’s plans and is considering his future at the club. This brings Inter into the picture, who are touted to easily integrate the Spaniard in the traditional back-three role – a position that Garcia is comfortable with.

Barcelona could expect to receive anywhere around the €20m (via transfermarkt) range for their youth product, who has so far failed to shine in sunny Spain.

He has appeared just 23 times for the Blaugrana this campaign – racking in 1,760 minutes in total.
