Inter List Three Players to Succeed Chelsea Target Dumfries

Chelsea are in the hunt for Denzel Dumfries, and Inter are very well aware that it would deal serious damage to Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation. The loss of Ivan Perisic to Tottenham on a free transfer has already opened up a gap in the wingback position. The coach himself is disinterested in offloading the former PSV Eindhoven fullback, but the upper management will be forced to listen to any relevant offers due to their financial position.

As Corriere dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb) indicates, Chelsea might be willing to match Inter’s €50M valuation of the Dutch defender. The Nerazzurri are already preparing a contingency plan by shortlisting other world-class players in his position – three to be precise.

They like Wilfried Singo of Torino, who just experienced the most prolific season of his career, appearing 36 times and scoring 3 goals for the Granata. The Ivorian is the closest player to Dumfries in terms of technical ability and physique. His contract in Turin expires in June 2023, although his club has an option.

Another name in contention for a move is Barcelona wingback Sergino Dest, who is also garnering interest from Premier League heavyweights Manchester United. The American, whose contract ends in 2025, is staring at an uncertain future with the Spanish giants. He has failed to nail down a starting berth in the side since arriving from boyhood club Ajax.

Last but not least is Leicester City’s Belgian right-back Timothy Castagne. The former Atalanta man already has three years of experience in Serie A and has all the makings of a sensible investment for the Nerazzurri. His contract also expires in the summer of 2025.

Inter would need to invest nothing less than €20-25M for any of the aforementioned targets, with Singo being the cheapest of them all and Castagne the most expensive.
