Inter Lodge Formal Bid for Yann Sommer

Inter have no time to play games after Andre Onana completed his heavily anticipated switch to Manchester United earlier this week. Left without a reliable goalkeeper option, the Italians must act swiftly to fill the vacancy and ensure stability between the sticks.

According to FCInterNews, negotiations between Inter and Bayern Munich for Yann Sommer’s move to Giuseppe Meazza have gained momentum. Simone Inzaghi’s men have lodged a formal €4 million bid for the veteran shot-stopper. They are expecting the German’s reply by the end of the day.

Inter have identified Sommer as an ideal short-term replacement for Onana. But their interest was only theoretical until now. The Serie A giants have put forward a concrete offer for the 34-year-old. Yet it falls €2m short of the Swiss international’s release clause at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern are open to selling the ex-Borussia Monchengladbach goalie. The Bavarians are working around the clock to bring Valencia starlet Giorgi Mamardashvili as Manuel Neuer’s long-term successor. His arrival would facilitate Sommer’s move to Inter. But it requires a waiting game.

Unfortunately, time is not the commodity Inter can afford. In addition to Onana, they’ve lost long-serving captain Samir Handanovic. That’s not to mention Shakhtar Donetsk’s request to sell Anatoliy Trubin has priced them out of a deal for the Ukrainian talent.
