Inter Looking to Reduce Wage-Bill – Four Veterans Set for Farewell

Inter are currently leading the Serie A table and ahead of their thrilling derby clash against Milan on Sunday. Nonetheless, Antonio Conte possesses one of the more aging squads in Italy, and therefore the Nerazzurri could be set to say their farewells to some of their veterans as they look to rejuvenate the squad ahead of next season.

According to Calciomercato.it, up to four Beneamata players could be in the midst of their final season at the club.

The report adds that Conte himself has an uncertain future at Appiano Gentile, which could probably depend on the results from now until the end of the campaign.

However, the Inter board seem to be eager on building a younger and less expensive squad, which explains the expected departure of some of their veterans.

Ashley Young – who will turn 36 in July – is the first player mentioned. The former Manchester United man has mostly been a first option for Conte on the left side, but the Nerazzurri will probably try to sign another Achraf Hakimi for their flanks.

The second of the veterans is former Inter captain Andrea Ranocchia. The former Bari man has been a reserve player for several years now, but the source believes that there’s still a possibility of a contract renewal for another season.

Nonetheless, the two more prestigious names on the lists are the Chilean duo of Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez.

The 34-year-old midfielder will turn 34 in May, and has so far failed to impress on a constant basis. So despite arriving last summer as a favorite of Conte, the former Juventus and Barcelona man could be leaving after just twelve months, and the same goes for the striker who’s career has been on a downward spiral since leaving Arsenal in 2018.

It should be noted that the Chilean veterans are among the highest earners at Inter with Vidal earning 6 million euros per season, whilst Sanchez has a contract worth 7 million euros every year.
