Inter Lose Star Midfielder Brozovic to a Thigh Injury

Marcelo Brozovic will be out for more matches on top of the upcoming Roma one, which he was set to sit out due to yellow-card accumulation, because of an injury. The midfield subbed off after 17 minutes in Monday’s Nations League game versus Austria after suffering a muscular problem.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic commented after the game (via DAZN).

“I think he hurt the flexor muscle in his left thigh. He will probably be out for three-to-four weeks. I’m sorry it happened to him, but he will be ready for the World Cup. We suffered because of his absence, as we missed his aggressiveness and hard work in the midfield.”

Brozovic took some tests in his home country Monday, which confirmed the extent of the injury. He will undergo further examinations upon heading back to Italy. The hopes for a better diagnosis are very slim. The strain will cost him 20-to-30 days and probably 8 games, Sky informs.

The Croat has played almost every minute so far, scoring twice. He was replaced before the 80th minute just twice, against Lecce in the opener and versus Cremonese, when the match was already in the bag. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Kristjan Asllani substituted him in those instances. The Nerazzurri are dealing with another injury concern in the role, as Hakan Calhanoglu is trying to shake off a thigh pull.

Our Take on the Brozovic Injury

He’s arguably the most indispensable Inter player, as he’s the stick that stirs the pot even when his showings aren’t flashy. Unless they go with unorthodox solutions, which they shouldn’t, it will be baptism by fire for Asllani. He showed to have the stuff last season, but it will be a major challenge.
