With Milan Skriniar set to leave for Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, Inter have already shortlisted Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard to succeed the Slovakian.
The Nerazzurri were denied a move by the German heavyweights in the winter window, with the UEFA Champions League tie against PSG in mind, knowing that Pavard’s move would allow Skriniar to reinforce PSG’s defense against Bayern.
Salihamidžić confirms Bayern rejected a deadline bid for Pavard: "Benji is a very important, flexible player. We have very big goals this season, so we don’t want & can’t do without him. Latest reports by Tuttosport (via FCInterNews) indicate Pavard to be Inter’s primary target come summer, with the defender himself open to leaving Bayern. His contract in Munich expires at the end of the 2023/24 season, making an exit the most valuable move for all involved parties.
However, a contract extension is not entirely ruled out between Pavard and Bayern, but much will depend on loanee Joao Cancelo’s future. Inter are desperate to reinforce their backline, especially with the approaching expirations of Francesco Acerbi, Stefan De Vrij, Raoul Bellanova, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Kristjan Asllani.
Pavard put up a monstrous display against PSG in the Champions League last 16 first leg at Parc des Princes, as Bayern cruised to a 1-0 lead going into the return leg.
