Inter Making Headway in Extension Talks with Lautaro Martinez

Serie A titles hopefuls Inter are reportedly making headway in talks over Lautaro Martinez’s contract extension. According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via TMW), both parties are willing to extend their prolific relationship.

Inter are keen to tie their captain down to a new long-term contract, even though there’s no need to rush a renewal. Martinez’s deal at Giuseppe Meazza expires in 2026. That gives Nerazzurri more than enough time to find common ground, but they are reluctant to wait.

Martinez’s eye-catching exploits in front of goal have done more than just earning him the captain’s armband. Set aside his league-high 12-goal tally in Serie A, the Argentina international has established himself as a true leader of this Inter team.

He has been nothing but a faithful servant since joining Inter from Racing Club in 2018. Despite attracting interest from a host of Europe’s big guns, Martinez has never asked to leave the club. And Nerazzurri are eager to reward his loyalty with an improved contract.

It’s understood Martinez’s salary would take a substantial rise. He currently earns €6 million per season. But if everything goes as planned, his wages should go to €8m a year.

The 26-year-old’s agent, Alejandro Camano, has already established first contact with Inter over extending his client’s deal. Negotiations proceed in good faith as both parties are enthusiastic about locking down their future together.

Martinez will lead the line when Inter take on Frosinone in their last Serie A game ahead of November’s international break.
