Inter Managed to Retain Control of Bologna Starlet

Inter sold Giovanni Fabbian to Bologna for a relatively low sum considering the potential he had shown in Serie B already. On the other hand, they have inserted a buyback clause in the deal, which will be valid from the summer of 2025, Calciomercato reports.

The starlet has progressively earned more playing time and recently scored his fourth goal of the season. He had eight in the second division last year. The Nerazzurri will have the faculty of acquiring him for €12M in the future.

In addition, if Bologna receive larger bids for Fabbian beforehand, Inter can just oppose his departure until their option comes into effect. The midfielder was supposed to join Udinese as part of the package for Lazar Samardzic. Instead, he moved to the Rossoblù following the talks for Marko Arnautovic.

His father spoke with La Repubblica (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“He’ll surely play two years at Bologna, then the Nerazzurri will have the right to buy him back, so we’ll see what they decide to do. They first signed him when he was 15. He’s an expert cutter, and Joshua Zirkzee opens up a lot of spaces.”

Our Take on Inter, Bologna, and Fabbian

These details hadn’t emerged yet, but it would have been very weird had they given up on a clear talent altogether. While cashing in on somebody not part of the squad is often a financial crutch, his trajectory aligns with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s potential exit. Even though the veteran has been great, he’s 35 after all.
