Serie A Coach Turns Down Man Utd Approach to Replace Ten Hag During International Break

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi has reportedly rebuffed Manchester United’s approach to succeed Erik ten Hag at the helm. According to Sportitalia journalist Tancredi Palmeri, the Red Devils offered the former Lazio boss the job, but he declined.
Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford hangs by a thread. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not a fan of the Dutch tactician and wants him out as soon as possible. Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 romping of United at the Theatre of Dreams was reportedly the final straw.
While Man Utd can hardly be worse than this, sacking Ten Hag wouldn’t solve their problems. They need a dependable replacement before they relieve the 54-year-old of his duties. Inzaghi was seemingly high on the Red Devils’ shortlist, but he decided to remain loyal to Inter.
Inzaghi’s contract at Giuseppe Meazza runs out in 2026. However, after guiding Inter to a landmark 20th Scudetto last term in scintillating fashion, the 48-year-old has earned an iconic status among the club faithful and hierarchy.
Even though Inter could’ve done better in the early stage of their Serie A title defense, Inzaghi’s position in the dugout is safe. Ten Hag cannot say the same about his status at Man Utd after his side dropped a two-goal cushion in a dramatic 3-3 draw at Porto in midweek Europa League action.
The Dutchman could be counting his final days in Manchester. But Inzaghil will not leave Inter to embark on a rescue mission of a club that has suffered an epic downfall after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
