Inter Midfield Maestro Primed to Ink Contract Extension

Hakan Calhanoglu has no doubt concerning his future, which will continue to be at Inter for the long term. His current deal runs out in 2024, but it will be renewed shortly. The Turk announced as such in an interview with NTV (via SportMediaset).

“Everything has been agreed upon. I will prolong my contract. I’m happy here and I don’t want to leave. My goal is to play at the highest levels for the entirety of my career. That’s my main objective, hopefully avoiding injuries. The situation is clear, and I will put pen to paper in the next few days.”

Per Corriere dello Sport (via OneFootball), Calhanoglu will tie himself down to Inter until 2027. He’ll spend his late prime with the Nerazzurri considering he’s 29. He joined two summers ago in a controversial free move from Milan after failing to come to terms with his previous team. The Turk has posted 12 goals and 21 assists in 94 appearances since then.

Stefan De Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni are next in line as far as renewals as concerned for the Viale della Liberazione outfit. The outcome should be positive for both defenders.

Our Take on Inter and Calhanoglu

The fit has been superb considering he used to play as a no.10 and wasn’t as consistent in that role. While there’s no hesitation he’ll stay put, the question for the higher-ups and the coaching staff is whether he should be their main regista, potentially making Marcelo Brozovic expendable, or a technical box-to-box, and if the coexistence can continue without hiccups and to everybody’s benefit.
