Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing ‘Double Curva’ investigation. The Turkey international was the latest high-profile Nerazzurri member to appear before the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office for testimony.

Italian police launched a comprehensive anti-mafia action against numerous high-ranking Inter and Milan fans, leading to the arrest of 19 ultras from both clubs toward the end of September. Their alleged ties with the notorious mafia crime syndicate ‘Ndrangheta have caused havoc at San Siro.

After Inter manager Simone Inzaghi and vice-president Javier Zanetti made depositions, it was Calhanoglu’s turn to explain his links with former Curva Nord leaders Marco Ferdico and Antonio Bellocco.

The latter lost his life in a gun shooting last month, with police suspecting his death was the consequence of his involvement in a power struggle within the ‘Ndrangheta ranks. While Bellocco was the victim of a brutal murder in early September, Ferdico is currently in custody.

As for Calhanoglu, he reportedly had an intimate relationship with Ferdico, although the Inter playmaker played down such speculation.

I saw the ultras, but the club had told me not to do so,” the 30-year-old said, as reported by Calciomercato.

The Inter star explained his decision to meet with the notorious duo was ‘out of gratitude,’ insisting they never had family dinners, as previously claimed by several media outlets in Italy.

Calhanoglu may not be the last Inter employee to be brought in for questioning. Despite severing ties with the reigning Scudetto holders over a year ago, Milan Skriniar could be next.
