Inter Midfielder Solidifies Superb Scoring Form Against Udinese

Lautaro Martinez’s match-winning brace against Udinese grabbed the headlines, but Davide Frattesi’s early opener can make Inter supporters even more enthusiastic moving forward. The former Sassuolo midfielder maintained his prolific form in front of goal in yesterday’s 3-2 victory at the Bluenergy Stadium.

Frattesi stuck the ball past Maduka Okoye after only 43 seconds to put Inter in front. It was Nerazzurri’s fastest goal in Serie A since March 2023, when Romelu Lukaku scored against Atalanta. But the goal was proof of the Italy international’s unrivaled scoring abilities among midfielders in Italy’s top flight.

Despite only making five league starts for Inter last season, Frattesi boasts an outstanding ratio in the final third. He has scored or assisted every 129 minutes he’s been on the pitch for the reigning Serie A champions. Only Marcus Thuram and Martinez have outperformed the 25-year-old in that regard.

It’s uncertain whether Simone Inzaghi would’ve used Frattesi from the first minute on Saturday had it not been for Nicolo Barella’s injury. The former has frequently played understudy to the ex-Cagliari starlet during his relatively brief stint at Giuseppe Meazza, leading to speculations he could leave Inter in the summer.

Juventus were reportedly keen to take Frattesi to Turin, yet Inter had strongly opposed the transfer. The Italian has ended up staying at Meazza. This season, he has registered two Serie A starts, tallying a goal and assist in only 255 minutes of top-flight action.

Perhaps it’s time for Inzaghi to start Frattesi more often, with Inter desperately needing to relieve the scoring burden of Martinez and Thuram.
