Inter have relatively struggled out of the gate but aren’t panicking about the early results. They believe most of their problems stem from a suboptimal summer preparation. They are confident their top players will round into shape naturally as the season progresses, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
Alessandro Bastoni had hinted at the situation in August.
“It’s almost as if seasons are never-ending. A 20-day break can’t really be called a vacation. It’s tough to bear with that mentally.”
Several Inter centerpieces had deep runs in the Euro and the Copa America. Lautaro Martinez is the main example of that. He practiced for about a week before the opener without partaking in any friendly. He skipped the second game due to muscle fatigue. He has yet to score, although he dished an assist in the Derby.
Newcomers Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski suffered minor muscular issues during the summer, which has slowed down their integration into the team. Stefan De Vrij dealt with something similar and has featured very little so far. Hakan Calhanoglu got banged up during the most recent international break and hasn’t been brilliant so far. Benjamin Pavard has looked poor from a physical standpoint. Marcus Thuram got off to a very fast start but regressed to the mean quickly.
Our Take on Inter
It’s a legitimate excuse but, while Derbies are games on their own and they were probably due for a loss after a lengthy winning streak, they shouldn’t have dropped points versus Genoa and Monza, as they still had more than enough to beat them.
