Inter Mull Over More Options to Fill Hole in the Back

Inter are canvassing the market for a left-footed defender and laid eyes on Genoa’s Johan Vasquez and Salernitana’s Lorenzo Pirola in their search for a cost-effective signing. They have also been linked to Mario Hermoso and Ricardo Rodriguez, who are out of contract, and Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri will probe whether they could get a youngster on loan with an option to buy before really turning their attention to a free agent.

Inter already acquired Josep Martinez from Genoa and are tracking Albert Gudmundsson, so the talks would be obstructed by the fact that the counterparty might not want to lose three starters in the same summer, instead Salernitana paid €5M for the Pirola last year.

The 22-year-old would help with the lists since he’s a home-grown product. He previously spent time at Monza too. He has featured in 54 Serie A matches, scoring 3 times. The Nerazzurri elected not to disburse €7M to bring him back.

Our Take on Inter, Vasquez, and Pirola

Their plan is wise, but veterans are a lot less expensive, so they’ll need some luck and ability to find somebody with upside at an affordable price willing to be a back up. The Salernitana man might be open to it given his past ties and has the right traits, but he didn’t stand out in their terrible 2024/2025 season. Rodriguez isn’t a mouth-watering option but would give them flexibility since he can play on the wing and would be much cheaper than Hermoso.
