Serie A champions Inter lag behind Juventus and Napoli in a fiercely contested race to sign Genoa talisman Albert Gudmundsson. However, Simone Inzaghi remains hellbent on landing the Iceland international this summer despite facing stiff competition, per Calciomercato.
Gudmundsson’s rise to stardom at Stadio Luigi Ferraris has made him one of the most exciting prospects in European prospects. In addition to Inter and their fellow Italian rivals, he has attracted interest from Premier League colossi Tottenham Hotspur.
With a bidding war set to ensure after the 2024 European Championship, Genoa chiefs must be rubbing their hands. They’ve already named their asking price. Inter and other Gudmundsson’s suitors would have to allocate around €30 million to get the Griffins’ go-ahead.
After two stellar seasons at Genoa, the versatile forward prepares to take his career to the next step. Inzaghi wants him at Inter. The 20-time Italian champions are ready to offer some talents from their academy as a makeweight in a deal.
While Genoa would consider such a proposal, there’s a roadblock. It’s name is Marko Arnautovic. Despite being on the fringes at Giuseppe Meazza, the veteran striker has no intention of leaving Inter. He recently confirmed his ambition to extend his second stint at the club.
Unless Inter can convince the Austrian to find a new home elsewhere after the Euros, they won’t be able to sign Gudmundsson. Time could be of the essence, considering the Genoa star’s admirers are reluctant to wait.
