Inter Need to Make the Call on Brazilian Goalkeeper

Inter are in pole position to sign Bento from Athletico Paranaense. They have to decide whether to capitalize on their advantage over the competition or continue with their current goalies past this season, Calciomercato relays.

The Nerazzurri signed two shot-stoppers last summer, Yann Sommer and Emil Audero. The former signed a three-year contract and has been sure-handed so far. Instead, the former Sampdoria starter joined on a season-long loan with a conditioned €7M obligation to buy. He’s making his first appearance versus Benfica.

Inter contemplated a move for Bento in the previous window but ultimately decided to go with a veteran after losing André Onana and Samir Handanovic. They have stayed in touch with his club. They could seal the deal for €15M if they wished to. He’d come over at the end of the season.

The goalkeeper has given up 57 goals and kept 21 clean sheets in 59 matches across all competitions this year. He has spent the entirety of his career at his current club. He has been called up twice by Brazil but hasn’t debuted.

Our Take on Inter and Bento

It’s more likely than not that they won’t keep Audero, as they can find a backup for less money. Sommer clearly isn’t a long-term answer, but he can take care of the role for one or two more years. It’d be challenging to sell the newcomer into being a deputy, at least for a few months, since he’s 24.
