Inter Not Fretting over Future of Tottenham-Linked De Vrij

Mino Raiola also met with Inter during his recent trip to Italy. He discussed the future of Stefan De Vrij, whose contract expires in 2023. The Nerazzurri intend to prolong it, but they asked for some patience. They have to take care of Marcelo Brozovic’s deal first, which is up in June.

According to FC Inter News, the parties have laid the foundations to add two more years to the contract and bring the wages to €4.5M. But the front office wants to wrap up other negotiations before formalizing the offer. They have recently increased the payroll by extending Lautaro Martinez and Nicolò Barella.

Milan Skriniar and Federico Dimarco are in line to get their salaries touched up as well. On the other end, the possible exits of Samir Handanovic and Ivan Perisic could give the executives more financial leeway. Inter will evaluate the whole picture before furthering the talks with the Dutch center-back. Therefore, the agreement might not come before the summer.

De Vrij and Raiola are not opposed to waiting it out. Inter do not believe the situation will generate any tension, nor that there is a real threat coming from the transfer market. The defender is on Tottenham and Newcastle’s radar, but he is happy in Milan. Moreover, he has a strong bond with Simone Inzaghi, who already coached him at Lazio. The 29-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from the Biancocelesti on a free transfer in 2018. He has been a pivotal cog in their permanent transition to a three-man defense.
