Lautaro Martinez has signed a three-year extension that will tie him to Inter until 2026. His previous deal was set to expire in 2023. The Nerazzurri had been working on his new contract ever since rejecting the offers for him in the summer. His agent Alejandro Camano had long announced that they had come to terms.
Inter picked the day of the shareholder’s meeting to make it official. The striker visited the club’s HQ to put pen-to-paper. According to Sky Sport, he will earn €6M net per season. He received a significant pay raise since he was making €2.5M plus bonuses beforehand.
The Nerazzurri also removed the €111M release clause that raised questions about the future of the attacker in the past. However, nobody ever activated. Martinez has registered 54 goals and 21 assists in 144 appearances with Inter. He joined from Racing Club for €25M in 2018. He has gotten off to a good start in the current season as he has hit the net five times in the first nine Serie A games.
El Toro admitted that Barcelona intensely pursued him before the pandemic. Tottenham showed interest last summer amid the Harry Kane transfer saga. However, Inter decided to cash in only on Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi. They never seriously considered putting the Argentinian star up for sale. A few months later, they have been able to secure a lenghty commitment from him: “I am very happy to be here and to stay for a long time,” he told the club’s site.
