While Inter are having trouble coming to terms with players on expiring contracts, they are in a better spot with those whose deals run out in 2024, as is the case for Hakan Calhanoglu and Simone Bastoni. The talks with their respective entourages are at a good point.
Per Tuttomercatoweb, the Nerazzurri hold an option to prolong the pact with the Turk for an additional season. Therefore, they have plenty of leverage and are in no rush. However, rather than doing that, they wish to strike a deal that would tie him down for longer, until 2026, also to reduce his cost on the balance sheets. His agent Gordon Stipic will pay the brass a visit in January. The midfielder is keen on staying long-term.
Bastoni is on the same wavelength as Calhanoglu, even if the suitors would flock if Inter ever made him available. The directors have been in touch with his representative Tullio Tinti. The gap between the offer, €3.8/4M per year, and the request, €4.5M plus add-ons, isn’t too wide. The negotiation shouldn’t be lengthy or dramatic.
The Nerazzurri have been trying to renew Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij’s contracts to no avail so far. According to Calciomercato, the Dutchman would like to play abroad, and he’s searching for the right opportunity. On the other hand, he’ll re-up with La Beneamata if he doesn’t find what he’s looking for.
Our Take on Inter, Calhanoglu, and Bastoni
The management might have learned their lesson, as getting too close to the expiration date has more often than not proven detrimental. They need to have certainties on at least one, preferably two, of their top center-backs.
