Inter have struggled mightily in the rare instances when Marcelo Brozovic was unavailable, and bringing in a proper backup will be one of their top priorities in the summer. Coach Simone Inzaghi showed confidence that the team would get the job done.
The gaffer addressed the matter in the presser before facing Milan: “When Brozovic was not present, we adapted box-to-box midfielders to his role. We do not have a real replacement for him. I talked with the management, and we will sign one in the next window.”
According to Calciomercato, Inter are seeking a youngster to groom as Brozovic backup. Such strategy would rule out veterans such as Leandro Paredes and Jordan Veretout. Moreover, they are not pure deep-lying playmakers, especially the Roma midfielder.
The Nerazzurri will try to acquire a U-22 player to fill this void. They are scouring the Italian and European markets, while they have discarded the South American options. They are keen on Kristjan Asllani, who is also on Milan’s radar. The negotiation has yet to start, but they will make an attempt with Empoli. They have a strong relationship with them, but their loanee Andrea Pinamonti will not be part of the deal. He earns too much for the Azzurri, and he wishes to join a bigger side permanently.
Inter are also looking for candidates in Germany and France. They could have one in-house in Lucien Agoumé, who has been a regular at Stade Brestois. They have taken an interest in Lecce’s Morten Hjulmand too.
