Inter Player Ratings vs Fiorentina: Thuram Makes His Mark on Milanese Soil

Here are our Inter player ratings within the Nerazzurri’s superb 4-0 victory over Fiorentina, making it a perfect run of nine points out of nine available for Inzaghi’s men heading into the International break.

Pair of Inter strikers Marcus Thuram and Lautaro were ferocious this evening at the San Siro as they both contributed to three out of the four goals, as central midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu converted from the  penalty spot past Fiorentina custodian Oliver Christensen.

Inter (3-5-2)

Yann Sommer – 6.5

The Swiss international made some impressive passes with the ball at his feet and denied Fiorentina a goal with a superb save in the second half, earning himself three consecutive clean-sheets.

Matteo Darmian – 6

The Italian international made some significant challenges but was often beat far too easily in one v one situations. However, Darmian made crisp passes and made fine decisions when building out of the back.

Stefan De Vrij – 7.5

Was magnificent this evening as his read of the game was spot-on, winning vital challenges against the opposition and intercepting key crosses into the box.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7

The 24-year-old made impressive runs on the attack and delivered scrumptious crosses into the box, allowing Inter to be a menacing threat on the counter. In addition, Bastoni made some significant interceptions throughout the fixture.

Nicolò Barella – 6.5

Despite his time on the field being cut-short as a result of the Beneamata attaining a three-goal advantage with thirty minutes of play remaining, the central midfielder dispatched a flurry of magnificent diagonal balls across the pitch to find his teammates into space. The 25-year-old was also an engine within the central area of the pitch, continuously tracking back defensively when Fiorentina were on the counter.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu – 6

The Turkish international scored from the penalty spot following a poorly timed challenge on Marcus Thuram in the box and provided Inzaghi’s side with balance as his tactical awareness defensively was spot-on.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7

The former Roma midfielder was one of the main catalysts within the fixture, gliding through the midfield with his fine-tuned dribbling and dangerous pace and made key passes in-between the lines which caused La Viola’s defensive shape to be unbalanced.

Marcus Thuram-  7.5

The Frenchman scored his first goal for Inter with a staggering header and caused mayhem for Fiorentina with his perfectly timed runs in-behind.  The 26-year-old had impressive first touches and managed to set-up Lautaro Martinez to double his side’s advantage. Despite missing a handful of occasions within the first forty-five, Thuram had a fine display this evening under the lights of the San Siro.

Lautaro Martinez – 8

The Argentine demonstrated his maturity as a skipper, tracking back defensively and playing with his back-to-goal in order to combine with the midfielders. The 2022 World Cup winner was clinical as he bagged a brace, increasing his tally to five goals in three Serie A matches thus far.

Substitutes

Davide Frattesi – 5.5

The former Sassuolo midfielder was eccentric and added energy when fresh legs were needed, but failed to make a significant difference.

Carlos Augusto – 5

The left-hand wing-back made a few clean passes but was silent for the most part of his shift as he came on in exchange for Dimarco.

Juan Cuadrado – 6

The former Juventus wing-back made an imminent impact, providing an assist as he picked out Martinez with an exquisite low-driven cross to extend Inzaghi’s side advantage to four goals.

Marko Arnautovic – 5

The 34 year-old Austrian international struggled to get involved despite several impressive passes with the use of his link-up play.
