Inter Player Ratings vs Juventus: Lukaku and Lautaro Silent in Loss

Even though the Nerazzurri dominated possession, Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez went silent during Inter’s 0-1 loss to Juventus. In the first half alone, the Bianconeri completed just over 100 passes, yet the visitors scored when Denzel Dumfries and Matteo Darmian miscommunicated in the box.

Andre Onana – 8

Onana’s distribution proved crucial to Inter’s attack, as his quick passing helped the Nerazzurri mount fast breaks. In the net, the goalkeeper tested often by Juventus in the second half, and he had no chance to keep out the Filip Kostic’s wicked strike.

Francesco Acerbi – 6

While the defender’s passing was exceptional, he made surprisingly few defensive contributions. Despite the visitors sending in 16 crosses, Acerbi’s presence was not felt in the air.

Stefan De Vrij – 7.5

In his 16th domestic appearance, De Vrij took the reins at the centre of the Inter backline. The Dutchman helped silence Dusan Vlahovic and Matias Soule, and he bore no responsibility for Juventus’ first-half goal.

Matteo Darmian – 5.5

During Juventus’ opening goal, Darmian and Dumfries both sat ball-watching while Kostic calmly lined up his shot. The attacker had acres of space at the back-post, and Inter’s slow attempt to close him down cost the hosts the match.

Federico Dimarco – 7

From his position at wing-back, Dimarco was a dynamic presence for his side. The defender saw ample time on the ball and gave Mattia De Sciglio difficulties in the channel.

Denzel Dumfries – 5

Like Darmian, Dumfries was partially at fault for Juventus’ goal, finding himself wildly out of position. On offense, he showed glimpses of his old, dynamic form, but he was not nearly consistent enough to create any real chances.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6

The captain took the spot of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has struggled in recent fixtures. In relief, Brozovic provided stability in front of the backline, though his form has not yet returned to its best.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 7

Alongside Brozovic, Calhanoglu provided crucial midfield play for his side. At one point, the Turk made a brilliant slide tackle from behind to break up a counter attack, and his passing created several opportunities in the final third.

Nicolo Barella – 8

Early on, Barella wasted a brilliant chance that was set up by Lukaku. The striker played a quick one-two with the midfielder, but he was unable to finish from close range. However, Barella was the lone Inter player who consistently progressed the ball in a vertical direction. Surprisingly, he was the first to leave the pitch in the 63rd minute.

Lautaro Martinez – 5

From the front, Martinez was completely absent from the affair. In the first half, he managed just 15 touches and passed the ball at a 50% clip.

Romelu Lukaku – 6

While Lukaku’s hold-up play was top notch, the striker struggled to find shooting opportunities in the box. He registered just one off-target shot during his 80 minutes on the pitch.
