Inter Player Ratings vs Porto: Onana Shines, Earns Clean Sheet

Andre Onana shone during Inter’s impressive defensive showing against Porto. The Italians completed a 0-0 draw, advancing them to the Quarterfinals of the Champions League. Inter’s backline withstood incredible pressure from the hosts, surviving a wild added-time push for an equalizer.

Andre Onana – 9

While much credit goes to his backline, Onana was the man of the match. The goalkeeper made two impressive punching saves early on, and his desperate late dive somehow prevented Marko Grujic from sending the fixture to extra time in the second half.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7

Even though Bastoni struggled at times against the creativity of Evanilson, he played well in the air. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete the match, leaving with 20 minutes to go with an injury.

Francesco Acerbi – 7

At times, Galeno’s pace gave the aging defender significant problems. However, Acerbi was a key cog on Inter’s backline, keeping it organized during the impressive clean sheet.

Matteo Darmian – 8

More than once, Darmian covered for Acerbi’s errors. The centre-back played a solid game, not allowing the Porto’s speed to get the best of him.

Federico Dimarco – 6.5

For much of the match, Dimarco was hamstrung by Porto’s overwhelming possession. He was forced to play a deeper role, which gave him few attacking opportunities.

Denzel Dumfries – 7

While Dumfries had one critical turnover in the defensive third, he played exceptional defense for the most part. However, the wing-back’s attacking presence was nonexistent, and it was an overall average showing from the Dutchman.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6.5

Like many of the other Inter players, Mkhitaryan did not see much time on the ball. However, he impressed defensively, winning several tackles in the midfield.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 8

The Turk’s passing was at its best, as he created a majority of Inter’s few chances. Calhanoglu contributed to both sides of the ball and recorded two key passes as well.

Nicolo Barella – 5

While Barella managed a chance or two, his passing left a lot to be desired. Of the three central midfielders, he was the weak link today.

Lautaro Martinez – 5.5

Lautaro did not get on the ball enough, even as he frequently dropped into the midfield. While he registered two shots, neither were particularly threatening, and his passing was poor as well.

Edin Dzeko – 7.5

While the target man may not have scored a goal, Dzeko’s tireless work rate exemplified Inter’s tough performance. The striker was a force in all areas of the pitch, at one point covering for Federico Dimarco on the backline when Porto sparked a counter attack.
