Romelu Lukaku had a disappointing night as Inter drew 0-0 with bottom feeders Sampdoria. The big striker saw plenty of the ball, but he struggled to complete even short-range passes, wasting several prime chances for the visitors. For much of the match, Inter peppered La Samp with shots, but they were unable to convert even once.
Andre Onana – 6.5
The hosts actually managed a few quality chances, but they had difficulty putting the ball on target and challenging Onana, who had a quiet night.
Milan Skriniar – 5.5
Skriniar was solid in defense, but his distribution was lacking, to say the least.
Stefan de Vrij – 7
De Vrij’s return to the starting 11 was impressive, as the Dutch defender dominated in the air. He was rarely called upon to defend one-on-one, but he did have his hands full with Sam Lammers between the lines.
Francesco Acerbi – 7
With Alessandro Bastoni relegated to the bench, Acerbi stepped into a somewhat unfamiliar left centre-back role. He performed well, though his lack of pace showed occasionally.
Matteo Darmian – 5.5
After a decent performance against Milan, Darmian’s good form continued in the first half. However, his influence waned as Sampdoria continued to park the bus, and he ultimately left the pitch for Denzel Dumfries.
Robin Gosens – 4.5
During his 45 minutes on the pitch, Gosens was less than impressive with the ball at his feet. The wing-back was Inter’s one midfield piece who seemed out of rhythm, and Simone Inzaghi promptly removed him at halftime.
Nicolo Barella – 7
Like many of his teammates, Barella started the match well, but his form declined in the second half. His passing and quick footwork helped facilitate several counters for Inter in the first 45.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6.5
Calhanoglu had a similarly impressive match in the midfield, but his poor finishing let him down. Late in the game, he found himself in a prime position to shoot more than once, but he was unable to put the ball on target.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7
Mkhitaryan completed Inter’s impressive midfield showing with a strong performance of his own. He distributed the ball well, and he made one crucial defensive stop on a Sampdoria counter attack.
Romelu Lukaku – 5
Alongside Lautaro at striker, Lukaku had ample opportunities to create with his renowned hold-up play. However, something was missing, as several times he just did not provide the service needed. The striker seems to be on the cusp of finding his old form, but it was certainly not there tonight.
Lautaro Martinez – 5.5
Though he played well in the first half, Lautaro seemed to disappear in the second. At times, he seemed out of sync with Lukaku, as the pair struggled to link up.
2023 has been a year of inconsistency for Inter in Serie A. Beating Napoli & Milan but dropping points to Sampdoria, Empoli & Monza.

Substitutes
Federico Dimarco – 6.5
The wing-back immediately injected life into the Inter attack, raising questions about why he didn’t start. However, he did miss a wide open chance at the back post, trying to power in a shot from six yards out rather than place it.
