Inter Poised to Unveil New Logo as Part of Rebranding Campaign

EDIT (January 18, 2021 @ 3.00 PM): Differently from what initially reported, there is no plan to change Inter’s official name from Football Club Internazionale Milano to just Inter Milano. “Inter Milano” will just be the name of the rebranding campaign, which will result in the Nerazzurri club changing their logo.

Inter are set to enter a new era as the Chinese ownership have decided to tweak the full name and change the logo of the team, switching from Football Club Internazionale Milano to just Inter Milano, Gazzetta dello Sport reported. The logo will be simplified as well and will likely include just two letters.

The move aims at boosting the appeal of the club abroad, as it is already mostly referred to as Inter Milan in English-speaking countries. The project, which has been in the works for months, will move forward despite the recent financial troubles, but the uncertainty could end up pushing the scheduled date back, according to Repubblica.

The new logo should be unveiled on March 9th, when the club will celebrate its 113th birthday. The original design has had some tweaks over the years but has mostly stayed unchanged since the founder Giorgio Muggiani created it in 1918. The new one will be modern, stylized and minimal, similarly to what Juventus did in 2017. It has been ideated to promote the brand of global media company rather than simply a football team.

Inter are also slated to end their historical sponsorship with Pirelli next season, moving to a company that is part of the Suning conglomerate. However, that will hinge on what happens with their shares as the current owners are looking for investors; the private equity fund BC Partners has already started making their due diligence and might take over the majority stake, which would yield major changes.
