Inter are reportedly set to announce the extension of Marcelo Brozovic’s contract following months of negotiations. Per SempreInter, the Nerazzurri are likely to release the official announcement in the wake of the upcoming Derby della Madonnina against Milan.

Brozovic has been one of the most significant cogs in Inter’s machine over the past couple of years. While enjoying a rise to stardom at Meazza, the Croatia international has earned a reputation as one of the best deep-lying midfielders in Serie A.

And his impressive showings in Lombardy have not gone unnoticed. Several top European clubs, including Manchester United, have registered interest in the 29-year-old’s services. Newcastle United were also in the mix, but Brozovic has reportedly turned down the prospect of moving to St James’ Park.

The ex-Dinamo Zagreb star played a prominent role as Antonio Conte’s Inter side brought Juventus’ decade-long reign in Serie A to a halt last season. Even the managerial change at Meazza in the summer has not affected his household status at the Nerazzurri, with Brozovic continuing to occupy a key role in Simone Inzaghi’s set-up this term.

Indeed, the Croat has taken part in all 22 Serie A matches for Inter this season, helping his team push for a second consecutive league title. Inzaghi’s men are four points clear at the summit with a game in hand on both Napoli and Milan.

Heading into their mouth-watering showdown against the Rossoneri, Inter aim to make a potentially decisive step towards defending the crown. And if the recent reports turn out to be valid, they could spice the potential success up with Brozovic’s extension.

With Stefano Sensi gone for a half-season loan at Sampdoria, Brozovic will be under even more pressure in the second half of the season. And since Inter also gear up for their Champions League last-16 tie with Liverpool, the midfielder is unlikely to get time off in the crunch period of the campaign.
