Inter President Confirms Reports and Rallies the Troops

Inter owner Steven Zhang made his first public remarks in months at the Formula One Grand Prix in China over the weekend, corroborating the recent news about the club’s future to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport (via Virgilio).

“As long as I’m the president, we will always be competitive at the highest levels. We’re ready to write history. We’re very close to it. My heart is with the club, with my coach, my players, and our fans.”

Zhang once again repelled the chatter about the sale of Inter.

“The rumors are false. They have always been there in the last seven years. Our winning mentality has never been so high. Lautaro Martinez? We’ve seen him grow, and he has become a winner. There’s no doubt that we will continue together.”

Zhang talked directly to the Inter squad as well, LaPresse informed.

“There’s no need to motivate you before the Derby. I just want to thank you for what you have done so far. Enjoy the game. If it doesn’t happen on Monday, it will soon. You had an extraordinary season. The victory will be beautiful for everybody, especially those who haven’t tasted it so far. I hope it’s the first of a long series. If it occurs in the Derby, remember our values: sportsmanship and loyalty toward the opponents.”

According to TuttoSport and several sources, Zhang is nearing an agreement with California hedge fund Pimco on a three-year, €400M loan, replacing the expiring one with Oaktree and retaining control of Inter for the foreseeable future.
