Inter signed a top-notch option for the left flank, Robin Gosens, in January, but they had inquired about Angelino before zeroing in on the Atalanta star. The RB Leipzig defender was highly placed in their shortlist, but they deemed his price tag too expensive, AS reports.
The Nerazzurri made a serious attempt, but the German club asked for €50M. At that point, Giuseppe Marotta and the other directors opened talks with La Dea. They quickly realized it would have been easier to come to terms with them. Gosens’ recent injury woes did not obstruct their pursuit, and they got him for a relatively favorable formula. He joined on an 18-month loan with a €25M conditioned obligation to buy.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Inter still has Angelino on their radar for the summer. They consider him tailor-made to play as a wing-back in a five-man midfield. The 25-year-old has tallied seven assists in 25 appearances across all competitions in 2021-2022. He bagged 8 goals and teed up 11 teammates in the previous campaign.
The Nerazzurri anticipate losing Ivan Perisic at the end of the season when his contract will run out. They have also been linked to younger and more affordable options, such as Empoli’s Fabiano Parisi and Genoa’s Andrea Cambiaso. On top of Inter, Real Madrid plan to go after Angelino in a few months too. Los Galacticos will likely move on from their mainstay Marcelo, whose deal expires in June. Both sides expect RB Leipzig to lower their demands down the line.
