Inter Pursuit of Benjamin Pavard Handed Huge Boost by Thomas Tuchel

Benjamin Pavard’s bid to cut ties with Bayern Munich and continue his career in Serie A with Inter could soon come to fruition. According to the latest report from German outlet Bild, Thomas Tuchel has omitted the 27-year-old defender from his matchday squad against Augsburg.

Although Pavard’s omission is officially due to illness, a real reason behind Tuchel’s decision to leave the Frenchman out of the team could have a deeper meaning. Pavard is reportedly hellbent on joining Inter in the transfer window finale. He has already agreed personal terms with Nerazzurri

However, Inter and Bayern have been locked in talks for Pavard for almost a fortnight, with the Bavarians insisting on a €35 million asking price. It’s believed the Italians could strike a deal at €30m plus another €2m in add-ons after getting the player’s go-ahead. The versatile defender should earn around €5m net per season in Giuseppe Meazza.

Pavard’s contract at the Allianz Arena runs out next summer. Aware of his contractual wobble, Inter hoped to drive the price down, but to no avail. Time is running out, and Simone Inzaghi’s men have lost the upper hand over the Bavarians. Pressured by the clock, they must accept the Germans’ terms.

Inter cannot let the transfer window pass by without replacing Milan Skriniar. Pavard would be an excellent addition, given his quality and experience in top-flight football. On top of that, he can cover multiple positions at the back, which would make him an invaluable asset to Inzaghi.
