Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson has caught the eye of Inter CEO Beppe Marotta ahead of the summer transfer window. However, numerous clubs in Italy and abroad are also interested in the Iceland international, with the Griffins expecting a tug-of-war for their prized asset’s services.
Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur had been the frontrunners to sign Gudmundsson until not long ago. But the 26-year-old has changed his mind on leaving Serie A for England, potentially handing Inter a decisive transfer boost.
“As a child, I dreamed of the Premier League. But now I have changed my mind. This is life,” the versatile forward said during an interview with Sportweek via FcInterNews.
With Alexis Sanchez and Marko Arnautovic set to leave Giuseppe Meazza, Inter are in the market for a new forward. Gudmundsson ticks many boxes for the type of player Marotta is keen to recruit. He’s at his prime and could be available for a reasonable price.
Though his contract at Luigi Ferraris expires in 2027, Genoa would reportedly sanction his sale for approximately €35 million. In today’s market, capturing a player of Gudmundsson’s quality at such a price would be a steal.
He’s been the most notable breakout star of the 2023/24 Serie A season, netting 14 goals and adding four assists in 35 league appearances for Genoa. Capable of covering multiple positions along the frontline, Gudmundsson could be a massive coup for Inter.
But the Inter fans shouldn’t hold their breath. Until the club outlines its transfer policy under Oaktree, everything’s on a stand-by.
