Inter Reach Out to Milan Star Representatives Over Summer Switch

Inter have reportedly reached out to the representatives of out-of-contract Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu over a potential summer move. As reported by Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri are entertaining the prospect of replacing Christian Eriksen with the Turkey international this summer.

It’s now a near-certainty that Eriksen will not feature again for Inter following his on-field collapse during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland. Despite performing sporadically since arriving from Tottenham in January 2020, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder grew vital to the Nerazzurri down the final stretch of 2020/21.4

The Derby della Madonnina is one of the fiercest rivalries in world football. However, players swapping allegiances at the San Siro is not a taboo as it may appear at first glance, though Calhanoglu could become the first player since Sulley Muntari to make a direct switch.

Milan remain keen on tying the 27-year-old attacking midfielder down to a new contract despite the Turkish star’s reluctance to commit his future to the Rossoneri. Calhanoglu has emerged as a target for several domestic and foreign top clubs, but he has been underperforming at Euro 2020 so far.

With Turkey on the verge of crashing out of the European Championship, Calhanoglu will have time to sort out his contractual status at the San Siro. His current deal expires in just over a week, and he seems closer to leaving than staying at the moment.

Inter are ready to take advantage of the playmaker’s current situation at Milan to take him away in the summer. But it remains uncertain whether the player would accept to ‘betray’ the seven-time European Cup winners for cross-town rivals.
