Inter Ready to Make Compromise for Man Utd-Linked Andre Onana

A long-running transfer saga over Andre Onana’s potential move from Inter to Manchester United is evolving with each day passing. According to Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, the Italians could soften their firm stance on the goalkeeper’s price tag to facilitate his departure.

Onana’s stock has skyrocketed since he left Ajax to join Inter in 2022. Alongside Milan’s Mike Maignan, the 27-year-old was arguably the best shot-stopper in Serie A last season. Moreover, he was one of the most influential figures in Simone Inzaghi’s side that reached the Champions League final.

His fantastic showings at Giuseppe Meazza contributed to his hefty market valuation. Aware of Onana’s quality, Inter have slapped a substantial €60 million price tag. But while they were initially reluctant to waver on their demands, the situation has changed.

Man Utd’s opening big fell €20m short of the Italians’ demands. But the keeper’s heart seems set on switching to Old Trafford. And Inter have no intention of keeping an unhappy player against his wish. As such, the Nerazzurri are now willing to meet Man Utd at the halfway point.

It means a €50m bid would do the trick. But Onana would still not come cheap, although, by United’s standards, it seems like a bargain deal. The Red Devils have developed a nasty habit of splurging ridiculous figures on reinforcements over the years. Only last summer, they shelled out upward of €200m on new players.

While they remain in a pole position to sign the Inter star, they’re not alone. Chelsea, who share the same proclivities for excessive spending, are also in the race. New manager Maurizio Pochettino wants to replace Keppa Arrizabala and has his eyes fixed on Onana. However, the player’s will is to join Man Utd.

Erik ten Hag is keen to find a long-term successor for David de Gea amid the Spaniard’s contractual wobble in Manchester. He has identified the Inter stopper as his prime target. As things stand, he could soon fulfill his dream.

As for Inter, Onana’s departure would force the club to search for a new goalie. Long-serving star Samir Handanovic is on his way out of Meazza after failing to land a new deal. But whether they can find a suitable replacement for the Cameroon international is debatable.
