Inter Ready to Take Drastic Measures to Offload Two Outcasts

With the August 31 deadline fast approaching, Serie A champions Inter are becoming desperate to get rid of Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa. According to Calciomercato, Simone Inzaghi has deemed both players surplus to requirements following several underwhelming pre-season performances.
Arnautovic and Correa were not part of Inzaghi’s plans before the team’s off-season preparations got underway. However, their dismal showings in recent friendlies have only reinforced the club’s effort to get their substantial wages off their books. But as Inter president Beppe Marotta has realized, it’s far from simple.
While Arnautovic has no intention of moving to Turkey despite being approached by several Super Lig clubs, Correa is reluctant to go to the Saudi Pro League. Inter must sell the Austria international to make room for a new forward after adding Mehdi Taremi on a free transfer in July.
Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson has long been on Marotta’s shortlist. However, Inter could miss out on the Icelandic star’s signature after Fiorentina stepped up talks with the Griffins over the 27-year-old’s switch to Tuscany.
As for Correa, he joined Inter from Lazio for €30 million and penned a multi-year contract worth €3.5m net per season. Like Arnautovic, the Argentine’s deal runs out in 2025. The duo’s lucrative arrangements could become a burden for Inter amid the club’s faltering attempts to remove them from the squad.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, with Inter reportedly considering the idea of terminating their out-of-favor tandem deals in the coming weeks.
