Inter Rebuff Bayern Munich’s Opening Bid for Hakan Calhanoglu

Hakan Calhanoglu might be keen to join Bayern Munich, but Inter have no intention of losing their midfield stalwart this summer. According to La Repubblica, the new Serie A champions have rebuffed the Germans’ initial approach, making it clear they’re unwilling to sell.
Yesterday’s report from Turkish journalist Ibrahim Kirkayak stating Calhanoglu is in ‘advanced talks’ with the Bavarians dispatched shockwaves through Europe. But it seemingly didn’t catch Inter off guard. They seem well-prepared for a battle, as Simone Inzaghi doesn’t want to lose his deep-lying playmaker.
Bayern Munich’s opening €40 million bid fell on the Italians’ deaf ears. However, there’s a feeling that this is only the beginning of another transfer saga. Inter are hellbent on keeping hold of the 30-year-old, but they’d be powerless to stop him from leaving if he expresses a desire to link up with the Bundesliga juggernauts.
Worryingly for Inter, the wheels are already in motion. Vincent Kompany’s men have tabled a significant €8m contract offer to Calhanoglu. Given his past, it’s hard to expect he’ll pass on this opportunity. Only three years ago, he forced his move from Milan to Inter after running down his deal at San Siro.
As it often happens in life, what goes around, comes around. Inter benefited from Calhanoglu’s greediness in 2021, and they could now be on the receiving end of it. Inzaghi considers him an invaluable first-team asset, but all that could be in vain.
Calhanoglu is currently at Euro 2024 with Turkey. But as soon as he gets back, Inter will have to address this issue to avoid a turbulent summer.
