Inter Receive Mixed News from Tests on Brozovic and De Vrij

Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan De Vrij both bowed out of the Liverpool game due to calf problems. The defender left at half-time, while the midfielder subbed off in the second half. They underwent some exams in the last couple of days, and neither sustained particularly worrying injuries.

Inter announced that the center-back suffered a pull of the soleus muscle of the left calf. He will be re-assessed in the next few days. He will likely miss the matches against Torino and Fiorentina before the international break, Sky Italy reports.

Brozovic has better chances than De Vrij to be available Sunday. The Nerazzurri stated that his tests came back negative. He is nursing just muscle fatigue. It will be up to coach Simone Inzaghi to decide whether to risk him in the next game or spare him to avoid more serious problems.

Inter have okay options to replace De Vrij, while they would have more trouble finding a good alternative to Brozovic. They lost two-nil against Sassuolo in the only tilt he missed so far. Danilo D’Ambrosio substituted the Dutchman at Anfield, with Milan Skriniar moving to the middle of the defense. Federico Dimarco, with Alessandro Bastoni changing his role, and Andrea Ranocchia will also compete to start versus the Granata.

Arturo Vidal and Roberto Gagliardini have occasionally filled in for the Croatian international late in some fixtures, but they do not have the same passing chops. Nicolò Barella generally serves as the deep-lying playmaker when the star teammate is given a breather.
