Inter Reportedly Complete Acquisition of Denzel Dumfries from PSV

Denzel Dumfries is de facto a new Inter player. The fullback has inked his four-year contract at the club’s HQ after undergoing the medicals earlier today. The Nerazzurri are currently sorting the final bureaucratic details before making the official announcement. He visited the Pinetina training center, but he did not practice. He will not partake in tomorrow’s friendly against Monza, Sky Sport reports.

Inter acquired the 25-year-old from PSV for €12.5M plus €2.5M add-ons. They managed to lower his initial €20M price tag with the help of his agent Mino Raiola. Dumfries prioritized the Nerazzurri over other clubs that showed interest. He will earn €2.5M per season.

La Beneamata has been looking for a new specialist on the right flank since selling Achraf Hakimi to PSG. While they pursued Hector Bellerin and Nahitan Nandez, the negotiations with Arsenal and Cagliari proved to be challenging. They quickly invested part of the money from the Romelu Lukaku sale in the Dutch international.

Dumfries has been with PSV since 2018 after playing at Sparta Rotterdam and Heerenveen. He has scored 16 goals and provided 20 assists in 124 matches with the Boeren. He was one of the best performers in the Euro, where he hit the net twice in four games.

He told the fans waiting for him at the airport yesterday that he was “happy and hungry” ahead of the move. His former coach Roger Schmidt elaborated on the transfer: “He wanted to join Inter, a great club that plays in the Champions League, and we allowed it. He meant a lot to PSV. I wish him the best.”
