Inter Secure Dynamic Atalanta Wing-Back as First Winter Signing

From Bergamo to Lombardy, from one Nerazzurri to another – Germany international Robin Gosens has finally switched allegiances to Inter, as the Milan giants offered Atalanta a transfer sum in the range of €25-30m, including add-ons.

Having been pursued relentlessly by Newcastle United over the transfer window, Gosens rejected any further advances from the Magpies to stay in Italy – on an initial loan deal that will be made permanent at the end of the season.

He joins the Italian champions on a €3m net-per-season deal on a three-year contract after saying no to Newcastle’s offer of €3.5m. Gosens’ transfer was confirmed yesterday as Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi met one another over final negotiations.

The dynamic wing-back becomes Simone Inzaghi’s first deal of the winter transfer window, and with only a few days left until the window closes, it looks like he will be the last.

The 27-year-old left-footer arrives just days after Inter confirmed the departure of Stefano Sensi to Sampdoria.

For someone who has excelled in Gian Piero Gasperini’s system of attacking play, a move to Inzaghi’s Inter seems like a step up – given the way the Nerazzurri operate on the flanks with great authority.

Gosens arrived in Atalanta from Dutch club Heracles Almelo for a paltry sum of €1.1m in 2017, before going on to establish himself as one of the best in the world in his left-back position.
