Inter Set to Announce Major Contract Renewal

One of the longest-running sagas of the early summer could soon come to a happy ending, with Inter set to tie Lautaro Martinez down to a new contract. The Nerazzurri President, Beppe Marotta, has confirmed the parties have sorted out the final details of the Argentine’s deal, insisting the official announcement could arrive soon.

Yes, Lautaro Martínez has agreed on every detail of the new contract with us,” the Inter executive said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “It will be signed really soon.”

Martinez led the charge as Inter wrapped up a landmark 20th Scudetto in 2023/24, winning his first Capocannoniere award since joining the club in 2018. The Nerazzuri skipper enjoyed a phenomenal season, bagging 24 goals and chipping in with six assists in 33 Serie A appearances.

Currently on international duty with Argentina, Martinez could pen a contract extension after the upcoming Copa America. Though the 26-year-old still has two more years left to run on his current contract, Inter wanted to ensure foreign suitors can’t get their hands on their talismanic striker.

Negotiations between Inter and Martinez are long-running. But after Marotta’s statement, the Argentine’s long-term stay is a foregone conclusion. Martinez’s blistering form in Serie A has made him one of the world’s elite strikers, drawing attention from numerous top European teams.

Barcelona and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring his situation at Inter with great attention. Yet, Martinez has never hidden his love for the Nerazzurri shirt and is ready to pledge his future to Giuseppe Meazza, where he’s become a fan favorite.
