Inter Set to Frustrate Tottenham and Atleti Handing New Deal to Star

Inter met with the agent of Lautaro Martinez earlier today, as scheduled. The parties positively laid the groundwork to extend his contract, which is currently up in 2023. There is the mutual will to continue together despite the rich offers for him, Alfredo Pedullà informs.

In particular, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham have been actively pursuing the Argentian striker. However, Inter removed him from the market after the departure of Romelu Lukaku. The player wants to stay put as well. His agent Alejandro Camano publicly declared as much on several occasions.

His next contract will run until either 2025 or 2026. They will have another summit to finalize the agreement on his wages, which should be around €6M per year, Gianluca Di Marzio informs. Inter and the entourage will likely meet halfway compared to their starting positions, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. They could pen-to-paper before the end of the window or slightly after deadline day.

Martinez will miss the opening match versus Genoa due to a one-game disqualification stemming from last season. He is also recovering from a hip muscular problem. He has been highly sought after during the window but never appeared particularly close to departure.

Inter received up to €70M from Atletico Madrid and Tottenham. However, they reportedly requested close to €90 to part ways with their star. In the past, he has been on Barcelona and Real Madrid’s radars. El Toro joined the Nerazzurri from Racing Club in a €25M move in 2018.
