Inter Set to Reopen Talks for Romelu Lukaku Return

Inter have reportedly not given up hope of bringing Romelu Lukaku back from Chelsea, though initial talks came a cropper. According to Fabrizio Romano, the parties will meet again next week to discuss the Belgian’s return to Giuseppe Meazza on another loan.

Lukaku spent last season at Inter. Following an injury-puzzled first half of the season, he brought his career back on track down the final stretch. His recurring injury problems and form woes led the Nerazzurri to decide against pursuing an extension to his stay. However, his return to prominence made Simone Inzaghi’s men change their minds.

Indeed, the 30-year-old went from strength to strength toward the tail-end of the season, mustering seven goals and four assists in his last seven league appearances. Yet, his epic miss in the Champions League final cast a shadow on his impressive form in recent months.

Lukaku is temporarily back at Chelsea. But he has no future at Stamford Bridge. Inter want to offer him an escape route again, with the Blues unwilling to stand in their way. Watch out for Milan, though. The Rossoneri are believed to have placed the robust striker on their list of targets.

However, Inter should have a clear upper hand given their history with the player. On top of that, Lukaku has no intention of relaunching his career in London whatsoever. Talks between the sides could restart once the Italians complete Marcelo Brozovic’s sale to Al-Nassr.
