Inter Shortlist Highly-Rated RB Salzburg Attacker

Inter continue to mull over adding a second striker, provided Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa depart, even though they are on the verge of missing out on Albert Gudmundsson, and will likely go young, as the first fallback to emerge is RB Salzburg’s Karim Konaté, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

He has bagged 28 goals and provided 9 assists in 49 appearances with the Austrian team and hit the net in the Champions League meeting with the Nerazzurri last season. He’s currently on the shelf with a knee injury, but it’s not too worrisome.

Inter would have to empty their coffers to sign Konaté since his side has set a €25M price tag. They signed him from SEC Mimosas for €3.5M in July 2022 and leaned on him after he cut his teeth on loan at Liefering for a season.

The 20-year-old has already 17 caps with the Ivory Coast under his belt, in which he hit the net twice.

Our Take on Inter and Konaté

They could certainly use a speedster and a super-sub up front. However, trusting talents is one of Simone Inzaghi’s few blind spots. If they wanted to go in that direction, they could have just kept Valentin Carboni and adapted him to the position, which wouldn’t have taken long. Plus, since they have been pinching pennies so far, he is way too expensive. The exits of their outcasts wouldn’t be profitable. Still, they shouldn’t be counted out until Gudmundsson signs on the dotted line at Fiorentina since Genoa are permissive on the formula.
