Inter Slated to Extend Contract of Coach Simone Inzaghi

Simone Inzaghi has drawn the interest of major foreign clubs, but Inter have no plans to let him leave. His contract extension is already in the works and will be finalized at the end of the season. He is currently tied to the club until June 2023.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new deal will run through 2024, with an option to automatically add another year. His wages will slightly increase from €4.5M to €5M plus bonuses. The Nerazzurri poached him from Lazio at the 11th hour last summer.

Team owner Steven Zhang and the coach have had instant chemistry since they have similar styles, the outlet relays. The results of the current season are still partial but already seen as satisfying by the bigwigs. Inzaghi and Inter won the Supercoppa, qualified to the second stage of Champions League and are neck-and-neck with Milan in the Scudetto race.

As customary, top teams do not go into a season with a coach on an expiring contract. The current boss is poised for a multi-year spell with the Nerazzurri. Inzaghi talked about his relationship with the Inter president in the presser before the Liverpool game: “He is always with us, and that is extremely pleasing. The same goes for the management, which is close and ready to help the team when needed.” The whole brass will travel with the squad to Anfield. La Beneamata will try to mount an improbable comeback in the second leg of the Round of 16 against Liverpool.
