Inter Star Close to Renewing His Contract at Giuseppe Meazza

Italian giants Inter are on the verge of extending Denzel Dumfries’ contract at Giuseppe Meazza after the player accepted the club’s extension proposal. According to Calciomercato, the Netherlands international has said ‘yes’ to Nerazzurri’s four-year contract offer worth around €4 million per season.

Dumfries has taken time to reflect on his situation at Inter, taking advantage of EURO 2024 to evaluate his future at Meazza. The 28-year-old returned to Italy and joined the training camp in Appiano Gentile after helping the Dutch national team reach the semi-finals in Germany earlier this summer.

Shortly upon his arrival, Dumfries agreed to extend his contract with Inter, putting wild speculation surrounding his future to bed. Formerly linked with a move to Everton, the former PSV Eindhoven right-back has drawn inquiries from several other foreign clubs. But he’s decided to pledge his future to Inter.

The new contract will put Dumfries on par with Federico Dimarco. Excessive demands from the player’s entourage had initially deterred Inter from offering the Dutchman a new deal. However, Dumfries has lowered his requests, facilitating his stay in Lombardia while ensuring Simone Inzaghi still has two reliable options at right-back.

Matteo Darmian will turn 35 in December, but he has been superb for Inter in the past few years. With Tajon Buchanan facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Darmian and Dumfries should carry all the burden in the first half of the 2024/25 season. But there’s a feeling that the latter will be Inzaghi’s first choice.
