After brokering Marcelo Brozovic’s switch to Al-Ittihad last summer, Inter could meet the Saudi Pro League giants at the negotiating table again in January. As per FCInterNews, new Al-Ittihad boss Marcelo Gallardo has requested the signing of veteran forward Alexis Sanchez.
Inter brought back Sanchez in the build-up to the 2023/24 campaign. The Chile international revived his career at Giuseppe Meazza following an embarrassing stint at Manchester United, helping Nerazzurri to their first Scudetto in a decade back in 2020/21.
But he cut short his three-year spell in Lombardy to join Olympique Marseille in 2022. Only a year after moving to Ligue 1, the 35-year-old returned to Serie A last summer as a free agent. Inter viewed him as a decent backup option for star duo Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
However, Sanchez’s second stint in Italy ought to be short-lived. With Simone Inzaghi not satisfied with the aging forward’s contribution, Inter are ready to shift his salary off the books in January. Offloading the Chilean would open space for a new forward as Nerazzuri seek reinforcements upfront.
Like Brozovic and numerous other former European big names, Sanchez could find refuge in Saudi Arabia. More precisely, the two could share the dressing room again as Al-Ittihad want to add the ex-Arsenal talisman to their star-studded frontline. Gallardo already boasts several formidable attackers.
Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Talisca lead the line at Al-Ittihad. But Gallardo wants another heavy hitter, with Inter pleased to complete another piece of business with the wealthy Jeddah outfit.
