Inter Star Dumfries Market Value Skyrockets After World Cup

Inter offensive-minded right-back Denzel Dumfries is among a select group of players to have seen their market value hit the roof due to their impressive exploits in Qatar. As international football’s biggest tournament, the World Cup often plays a massive role in determining a player’s price tag.

The 2022 edition in Qatar was no exception, with numerous stars to have plied their trade in the Middle East seeing them elevate their rising stocks to a new level. Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi put himself on the radar of a number of top European clubs for his eye-catching performances during Morocco’s dream run to the competition’s semifinals.

The Ligue 1 outfit would be within their right to slap a substantial €45m price tag on the 22-year-old starlet. In addition to Ounahi, sought-after RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol may command a transfer fee in excess of €100m, even though the Germans were always likely to demand a monstrous figure to let him go.

Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram also drew plenty of attention for his displays for France despite playing second-fiddle to Milan star Olivier Giroud. Inter have emerged as one of the potential suitors for Lilian Thuram’s son, who seems ready to take his career to the next step.

But the Nerazzurri chiefs must be rubbing their hands too, as Dumfries’ vivid performances for the Netherlands saw his price tag skyrocket. Heavily linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United over the past few months, the 26-year-old wingback may earn the Inter up to €60m if they opt for a sale.

It would make Inter a substantial profit, considering they paid PSV Eindhoven around €13m to acquire Dumfries’ services in the summer of 2021. The Dutch defender has gone from strength to strength since moving to Serie A as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who left the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium to link up with Paris Saint-Germain in that timeframe.
