Romelu Lukaku is back in Milan after a few days in Belgium to rehab from this thigh injury. The striker has improved rapidly. A return before the upcoming international break isn’t totally out of the question. While he will stay out for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen, he has an outside shot for Sunday’s game against Udinese.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, he and the medical staff will make the call depending on the level of risk of a relapse. The compromise could be to have him on the bench just in case of emergency. It already happened two years ago in a fixture versus Atalanta, where he accelerated and came back before a stoppage.

Lukaku visited with Belgian physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalck to speed up the recovery from his thigh injury last week. He will practice on the side today and tomorrow before undergoing further tests. The final decision will come Friday. There’s a 50 percent chance, but the outlook is more promising than what initially transpired, the publication informs.

Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa have offered uneven displays while the star striker was out. They both scored once, versus Cremonese and Milan respectively, but also left some chances on the table. The Nerazzurri picked up two wins and two losses sans the ex-Chelsea man.

Our Take on the Lukaku Injury

It’s a tricky situation because they could need all the help they can get while navigating their difficult start, and Udinese have proven to be a tough match-up for anyone in the early going. But history suggests being extra careful in these situations. Similar cases have already hurt Napoli and Juventus.
