Inter Star Stefan de Vrij Wanted by Premier League Powerhouse

Milan Skriniar may not be the only defender to part ways with Inter this summer as Stefan de Vrij edges closer to departing Lombardy. According to Calciomercato, Manchester United have laid their eyes on the Dutch centre-back.

Newly-appointed boss Erik ten Hag is keen to revamp the underachieving squad he has inherited from Ralf Rangnick. One of his top priorities is to reinforce United’s porous defence that conceded as many as 57 goals last Premier League season.

Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane failed to live up to the billing. Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are on the fringes and could wave goodbye to Old Trafford this summer. It means Man United will have to sign at least one reliable central defender in the coming months.

Inter would not oppose de Vrij’s departure. With a year left on his contract at Giuseppe Meazza, the 30-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements. And the Nerazzurri are reluctant to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

De Vrij joined Inter upon the expiration of his contract at Lazio in 2018. He has gone from strength to strength at Meazza, earning a household status among the club’s faithful. Yet, his contractual situation is forcing Simone Inzaghi’s men to consider cutting him loose this summer.

The Dutchman’s potential switch to Man United would open space for Gleison Bremer. Torino’s standout defender has emerged as Inzaghi’s number one priority. However, a lack of funds continue to hinder his bid to take the Brazilian to Inter.

In addition to de Vrij, Skriniar is another Inter star that could soon part with the club. Paris Saint-Germain are hell-bent on signing the former Sampdoria man. Talks between the sides ongoing and could lead to the Slovak’s move to Ligue 1 sooner rather than later.
