Inter Still Hot on Albert Gudmundsson’s Heels

Inter and Genoa continue negotiations for Albert Gudmundsson, who remains a great desire of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi. According to Calciomercato, the two clubs touched on the Iceland international’s case several times during their talks for goalkeeper Josep Martinez.

Martinez will land at Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday to complete his medical before penning a multi-year contract as Inter and Genoa struck a deal for the Spaniard’s switch to Lombardia. Gudmundsson’s name was a hot topic during negotiations, with the Serie A champions keen to sign the 27-year-old forward.

Gudmundsson has already agreed to join Inter. He’s poised to team up with the best team in Italy despite attracting interest from several other top clubs. However, Inter and Genoa are still at odds. While waiting for Oaktree’s definite decision on the transfer market, Inzaghi’s side must play a game of patience.

Inter can’t spend big this summer. But they could use Italy international Davide Frattesi as a counterpart in a deal to convince Genoa to give up their standout performer. That’s a remote possibility, considering the Griffins prefer to cash in on Gudmundsson. On top of that, there’s another hurdle Inter must overcome to capture the ex-AZ Alkmaar forward.

Marko Arnautovic is blocking the Icelandic star’s arrival. The Austria skipper has no intention of leaving Inter, even though he’s Inzaghi’s third option in attack. They’re working on offloading the veteran striker, but unless they receive the player’s consent, their hands remain tied.
