Inter Take an Interest in Dependable Bologna Defender

Inter are looking for a young defender and have laid eyes on Sam Beukema, who’s having a solid maiden Serie A season at Bologna. The Nerazzurri like Alessandro Buongiorno a lot, but they fear he might be too expensive for them, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Goal).

Francesco Acerbi wasn’t punished in the Juan Jesus case, but the controversy might still impact his future at the club. Moreover, he’s 36, while his deputy Stefan De Vrij is 32.

Inter already mulled acquiring Beukema last summer. However, they had the money to go after a more established player and opted for Benjamin Pavard. Moreover, they believe he’s a better fit for the central role in a three-man defense, while they needed a braccetto at the time.

Bologna paid €9M to onboard the Dutchman from AZ last summer. His valuation has at least doubled a year later. He has appeared 28 times so far, scoring twice. The Nerazzurri have also shown preliminary interest in Udinese’s Jaka Bijol, who has had a challenging season due to a foot fracture.

Our Take on Inter and Beukema

He’s not the stingiest defender but has above-average technique and is ideal for sides that like to build from the back. He’d probably be even better in a three-man line. They’ll have to address the position sooner rather than later, but De Vrij has had a bounce-back year. An athletic lefty who could also back up Alessandro Bastoni would be a more useful reinforcement.
