Inter Temporarily Put on Hold Sensi Transfer to Sampdoria

The Coppa Italia match between Inter and Empoli might have changed the destiny of Stefano Sensi. The midfielder decided the game in extra time with his first goal of the season. Moreover, Joaquin Correa picked up a muscular injury in the first few minutes of the contest.

The 26-year-old was set to finalize his move to Sampdoria Thursday. Inter will hold onto Sensi for a few more days, Sky Sport reports. The Nerazzurri will wait until Saturday’s match with Venezia. They might change their mind altogether if Correa sustained a significant thigh problem.

The Italian international has not played a lot so far, but he has mostly done it as a no.10 behind a striker. Coach Simone Inzaghi dished on the topic after the tilt: “Sensi deserved this kind of night because he has not gotten many minutes but always trained hard. As long as he is with us, I will take him into consideration. He is one of the weapons at my disposal. I would gladly keep him here, but it is up to him to make a decision. I had not bid farewell to him yet, and I would not mind if he stayed.”

According to the publication, Inter and Sampdoria had sealed the deal for Sensi. He would have joined on a straight loan with no option to buy, with the Blucerchiati paying his salary in full. The move is still likely to go down before deadline day, but the new developments have delayed and slightly jeopardized it.
